Following the appointment of three of our previous apprentices to full time, permanent positions BJF Group has now hired four more young people.

Plumbers Sam and Tom started their apprenticeships in 2018 having been recommended to BJF Group by their Dad. Since starting with us they have gone from strength to strength, getting involved in a whole host of projects ranging from smaller schemes to one of our largest M&E projects to date. They have proved to be valuable members of the team and were recently given full time permanent positions at BJF Group following the completion of their apprenticeships.

Business Administration Apprentice Juliette began working with BJF in the same year as Sam and Tom and has since progressed to an Assistant Buyer role within our Procurement and Supply Chain Team.

Following the successes of Sam, Tom and Juliette it was now time to bring in some new fresh talent. In this article we would like to introduce you to the latest cohort of BJF Group apprentices, Sam, Ethan, Alfie and Summer.

Since beginning their electrical apprenticeships Sam and Ethan have been working together on our Wellington Barracks refurbishment project overseen by senior members of our electrical team. Whilst their routes into an apprenticeship were slightly different, they both share the same view that there are significant benefits to being able to ‘earn while you learn,’ especially if you are more practically minded.

When asked about his time at BJF Group so far, Sam said:

“I enjoy working on site because I learn better by watching. I am getting great exposure to the working world whilst earning at the same time.”

Similarly, Ethan had this to say:

“I am getting great support from the BJF team on site and have learnt loads by working alongside the experienced operatives. I am getting involved with a variety of tasks which will all add to my own experience.”

Sam, Ethan and Alfie would all recommend an apprenticeship as they believe that it opens you up to opportunities that would not otherwise exist such as building a network of contacts and gaining real-life experience not just of your job but also how to conduct yourself professionally.

Plumbing apprentice Alfie decided early on in life that he wanted a career path that would keep him moving forward in terms of progression and literally moving (he hates sitting still!) Like Sam and Ethan, Alfie has cut his teeth on our Wellington Barracks project working with experienced plumbers as well as spending some time alongside the other apprentices. He sees his apprenticeship as the start of a lifelong career in which he will always be learning.

Of course, apprenticeships aren’t all about trades, so we also caught up with Summer, our Business Administration Apprentice to find out more about her time in the BJF Group Head Office.

On her experience so far, Summer said:

“I have really enjoyed my experience as an apprentice at BJF Group. Working in an office was what I have always wanted to do, so being able to gain a qualification and earn at the same time is a great opportunity. I have been working on reception as part of my responsibilities which is great as I get to know people and interact with visitors.”

Apprentices are key to the future success of BJF Group as we aim to nurture new talent and we look forward to seeing how Sam, Ethan, Alfie and Summer progress in the future.
