BJF Group has secured the £3.2m design and construction of a mixed-use development project located in Sutton High Street, London for the Thames Development Group to turn a currently derelict building into a new community asset.
The site is the former home of the Station Hotel and dates back to 1896. It has changed use through the years, most recently to a night club. The new development aims to maintain the heritage of the building and the surrounding area, whilst providing a new lease of life to the dilapidated structure.
The project, set to start on site in November 2021, will include the demolition of most of the existing building, with the exception of the front façade. Maintaining the existing street scene is considered essential by the conservation officer in order to retain the aesthetic of the street. Our works will include the design of the temporary retention of the existing façade and incorporating it within the new build structure.
The ground floor retail unit will provide a new Sainsbury’s Local store for the community and the floors above the retail space will provide ten modern apartments and some much-needed additional homes to the area. The apartments will also incorporate a communal rooftop garden that will provide views across London.
BJF Group have been working with the Client’s team at MEA Consultants to obtain planning permission for the scheme. The relationship between MEA and BJF has developed over several years and continues with the delivery of this project.
