We have all seen the shocking statistics around Mental Health in our industry and now more than ever it’s important we take steps to proactively support our people. That’s why BJF Group has been working on implementing ‘Better BJF’ a new mental health and wellbeing initiative which officially launches during this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental Health & Wellbeing is a growing concern and an ever-evolving subject that as a business we intend to support, promote, and make a difference within for the benefit of both our staff and the wider industry.

Our newly formed team of Mental Health & Wellbeing Champions will act as ambassadors for mental and physical health within the organisation. The Champions, all of whom have completed Mental Health First Aid training, will be supporting the Senior Leadership Team in driving forward key messages, raising awareness, and providing helpful resources.

Alongside formulating the initiative, we have joined forces with The Lighthouse Club, a high-profile charity organisation that provides physical, mental, and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families 24/7. By demonstrating a commitment in an annual pledge to the charity we hope to learn as much as we can and utilise the support services offered.

Further to this, in November 2020 we secured our Bronze Award with Kent and Medway Healthy Workplaces and we are close to attaining our Silver Award which further demonstrates our commitment to becoming an exemplary Kent based workplace in terms of employee wellbeing. The award recognises businesses based in Kent and Medway that have met a set of standards determined by Kent County Council and Medway Council’s Healthy Workplaces team. The standards include having a range of relevant organisational policies in place, providing a healthy working environment, ensuring consistency in raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing and providing support, education and training to ensure the targets are met.

Barry Foster, Managing Director at BJF Group said:

“The mental and physical wellbeing of everyone at BJF Group is a top priority and both myself and the Senior Leadership Team recognise the relevance and importance of this topic in our industry. As a result we pledge our full commitment and support and will work in conjunction with our team of mental health and wellbeing champions to drive this initiative and its associated campaigns”
