A team from BJF Group’s Project Services Division has recently refurbished the teaching kitchen at Meadows School for charity client Barnardo’s.

Having been approached by the school earlier on in the year, BJF Group were delighted to undertake a complete strip out and refurbishment of the teaching kitchen at Meadows School in Tonbridge, owned by the children’s charity Barnardo’s. We also installed a new accessible rear entrance as part of the project.

With works restricted to out-of-term times, it was imperative that the team worked efficiently and that the program was adhered to. We also had to be very strict with cost control to ensure that we stuck to the rigid budget set by the client.

We delivered the complete scheme ahead of time, including some small additional works such as flooring to the office space and refrigeration area.

Matthew Caulfield-Browne, Head of Project Services (South) for BJF Group said:

“Whilst this was a relatively small project for our team, it was hugely rewarding to be providing a much-needed refurbishment of the teaching kitchen at Meadows School. We hope to now continue our working relationship with Barnardo’s and together create and upgrade more exceptional spaces within their portfolio of buildings.”

Xavier Azzopardi, Head of Food Studies at Meadows School said:

“It is important to set high expectations of our young people. This is reflected in the foods they are asked to prepare, the quality of the equipment used and the accommodation in which to realise their ambitions. They have treated the new kitchen with respect, taking ownership for it, and have understood that in providing them with such a high quality environment, thanks to BJF, that we believe in their potential and their right to have the best and to use it to their advantage.”

Emma Bowman, Barnardo’s Director of Children’s Services in South East England said:

“Barnardo’s is delighted with the new teaching kitchen at Meadows School! BJF Group have done a marvelous job creating a space that the school can be proud of, and which will inspire generations of students to become confident and ambitious in their own kitchens and future careers. Thanks to BJF and the team at Meadows for making all this possible.”
