BJF Group’s Project Service Division has recently completed a full refurbishment of the World of Small Monkeys at Twycross Zoo, in Leicestershire.

Established in 1963, Twycross Zoo is an internationally renowned World Primate Centre and as such, the World of Small Monkeys is one of their key attractions. The area gives visitors a behind the scenes view into the lives of a host of species of small Monkeys.

Over a two month period, our project in collaboration with Wates FM has breathed a new lease of life into one of the jewels in the Zoo’s crown.

The full fabric refurbishment included merging some of the existing rooms to make larger spaces, the installation of new flooring, ceiling improvements and repairs plus cladding to ceilings and walls within both the enclosures themselves and the corridor area.

In addition, BJF Group’s team fabricated bespoke hatch covers, shelving and nesting boxes to ensure that they were in keeping with the newly reclad areas.

The project has transformed the space and made it not only more welcoming for visitors but also more comfortable for the Monkeys who call it home.

Karl Hubball, Project Delivery Lead at Wates Facilities Management said:

“We had an inspection this morning of the World of Small Monkeys. The Zoo was very happy, so much so that they want some items replicated at the Primate House.”
